It's finally official: The 2021 Kia Seltos will be arriving at Napleton's Elgin Kia some time in early 2020! Although it's similar in size to the Kia Soul, it's styled to look like classic rugged SUV. At the same time, drivers would be correct in thinking that it looks like a compact version of the new Kia Telluride. Here's what we know so far!

Kia Seltos Price and Standard Features

We already know that the Kia Seltos price will fall somewhere close to $22,000, placing it between the Kia Soul and the Kia Sportage. At the same time, reviewer after reviewer has noted that this SUV comes full-to-bursting with valuable standard features. Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ will be standard in all trims, and Kia has said that it will offer the most cargo space in the class!

Here, we've highlighted just a few of the Seltos SUV's standard and available interior features:

  • Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist-Rear (BCA-R)
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
  • Highway Driving Assist (HDA)
  • Reclining 2nd-row seats
  • 10.25-inch touchscreen
  • Bose 8-Speaker Surround Sound System
  • All-Wheel Drive with 50:50 lock mode
  • Music-linked mood lighting
  • Wireless device charging
  • 17-inch or 18-inch wheels
  • UVO link

What can you expect from the Kia Seltos in USA? The models that will go on sale in Elgin and Schaumburg will look a lot like those that are currently on sale in Asia! However, the USA-bound Seltos will feature a modified front fascia that instantly calls the Kia Telluride to mind.

Kia Seltos Specs and Powertrains

Drivers who upgrade with the 2021 Kia Seltos will receive one of two available powertrains:

  • Standard: 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with Intelligent Variable Transmission
    • 146 hp and 132 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Available: Turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 7-Speed DCT
    • 175-hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque

The Kia Seltos specs clearly distinguish this subcompact as a real, off-road-ready SUV. Even if you don't ever get your hands on the previewed Seltos X-Line Trail Attack concept, you'll still enjoy 7.2 inches of ground clearance. Those with an interest in the Kia Seltos specs should also note that it's been composed with 61% high-strength steel, for a more stable and composed ride.

The Kia Seltos Reviews Say It All!

It's been a very big year for Kia. Just recently, they were named as the Best SUV Brand in the U.S. News' 2020 Best Vehicle Brand Awards. What's more, the 2020 Kia Telluride has just been selected as the 2020 Motor Trend SUV of the Year

Of course, Kia doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Critics have already begun to rave about the new Seltos subcompact SUV, and it's not hard to see why:

  • The team at Edmunds writes that "A tougher look and all-wheel drive make the 2021 Kia Seltos a welcome companion to the funky, street-oriented Soul in Kia's lineup." They also note that "its 7.2 inches of ground clearance and standard all-wheel-drive system… give it above-average cred when away from pavement."
  • Autoblog points out that this new SUV is "Named after Celtos, the son of Hercules". They go on to write "While Hercules' lineage allegedly includes several Spartans, the Seltos is anything but. It comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and it's the first Kia offered with an optional, eight-speaker surround-sound system sourced from [Bose]."
  • CNET's Roadshow blog rounds things out, writing that "The materials feel upscale for the vehicle's modest asking price... and both technology and safety features are abundant".
